My prelims pole run left a little to be desired in my book, but I am happy to say I am coming back for the finals, and that always gives me a shot to do better on my next run. To my surprise I made a clean stake run. I promise I am not exaggerating when I say I have run stakes less than five times. We finished the prelims in sixth place.
After returning to the stands I met a group of girls who show what AQHYA can do. There were three girls from all over who are good friends from competing. Megan McMullen from Norris, Tennessee, competes in performance halter and western riding, along with Texans Ginger Chant from Abilene and Jenny Bivins from Amarillo. They were taking in the excitement of the speed events.
This has been a really long day and the weather is extremely hot, and this from a Texan! I am ready to rest up for tomorrow and wish all the roping contestants good luck. Oh, and to my new Arkansas friends, some speed event competitors have nice hats, too! Sorry I didn’t get your names, but you are great fans and supporters for your state.
